Church History

Constructed in 1874

The first Protestant church in Biloxi was started in 1849 when the Rev. Thomas S. Savage began his pastoral care of the people of the Gulf Coast. On August 10, 1851, with the help of Rev. Frederick W. Dumas, Bishop William M. Green formally organized the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, and in 1853 the church was granted its charter by the State of Mississippi. Services were held in private homes until 1856 when they were moved into the Masonic Hall on the northeast corner of Main and Washington Streets. The Parish was admitted into the Diocese of Mississippi in 1859. Read more history here
